3D Modeling Tutorial

AutoCAD lets you create 3D models in many different ways and then turn them into shaded renderings to create effective presentations.  A 3D model greatly helps people understand how an object will appear from different angles.  Rotating the model will then allow you to find potential fit and finishing problems before a design or project is put into fabrication or construction.

The 3D AutoCAD model can be manipulated much easier and also viewed from different viewpoints or plotted from any angle.  Once the 3D model exists, you can create as many 2D views as you would like and such views can be shown together with projection views on the same drawing.

3D AutoCAD models can be constructed using either Wire Frame, Surface Model or Solid Model techniques. Most models can then be assembled from basic primitive models using composite model techniques to create conceptual or final designs.  Creating scenes, adding lights, incorporate shading and cameras and assigning materials helps to produce realistic images of 3D AutoCAD models.

Examples of 3D models and how they can be displayed:

Figure 1 Architectural type drawing project can be displayed in 3D presentation drawings.

Figure 2 Mechanical Parts can be rendered and displayed in 3D presentation drawings.
